Agave Victoria – a species of plant in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae) of the agave subfamily (Agavoideae). In the wild it is found scattered in the Chihuahua Desert in northeastern Mexico . It grows there on limestone substrate, often overgrowing depressions on steep slopes , forming large colonies . Queen Victoria’s agave was so named by Thomas Moore in honor of the English queen.
CHARacteristics :.
Agave Victoria is a succulent with a general habit resembling other agaves . It grows very slowly , can reach up to 45 cm in height and the same diameter, but rarely exceeds a height of 25 cm. The rosette is formed by stiff and thick leaves with a length of 15-20 cm and a width of about 3 cm , ending in a small black spike . These leaves grow tighter and tighter with time, forming a spherical , compact and very regular form . The undoubted advantage of this agave is its compact form and beautiful white patterns on the leaves .
Requirements : .
This agave prefers sunny places . The best substrate is a humus or loamy soil with a large addition of gravel or coarse sand . It does not tolerate high moisture in the substrate , while it tolerates drought and windy weather well . In winter it goes through a period of dormancy . Then it is best to move it to a cool room (preferably with a temperature of 6-12 °C) . In the spring it is good to bring it outside , but it should be gradually accustomed to stronger light . Fertilize only twice a year – preferably in April and July . A fertilizer with a lot of potassium is used .
