CHARACTERISTICS :
Trachycarpus fortunei is the most common palm in gardens . Recommended especially for those starting out with palms , due to its exceptional frost hardiness , which in a well-rooted , adult palm is estimated at -17 to -19 degrees C . It has decorative leaves in the shape of green fans , and the stems are smooth , not covered with thorns . This palm tree well rooted in the ground , is able to achieve 10 to even 20 cm of trunk growth per year . REQUIREMENTS :
Trachycarpus fortunei is the least demanding palm with regard to substrate . However, when digging in, we recommend topping the root ball with light soil for palms with good permeability . We estimate the frost resistance of this palm tree in the ground at -17 /-19 degrees C , while the crown of the leaves itself can endure maximum temperature drops to -12 degrees C . In winter , when the temperature is forecast below 12 /15 degrees , it is recommended to protect the entire plant in the form of a protective hood /styrobuds / polycarbonate house and use a heating cable . The recommended temperature setting of the heating cable thermostat for wintering this palm tree in the ground is -7/-8 degrees C.
